Setting up tubeless tires shouldn’t be a struggle. Follow this quick, step-by-step guide to get a secure fit on modern hookless carbon rims without the mess.
1. Tape Preparation
Ensure your rim bed is completely clean and oil-free. Apply the tubeless tape with high tension, overlapping the valve hole by at least 2 cm on each side.
Pro Tip: Always smooth down the edges of the tape firmly with your thumb or a plastic tool to prevent air leaks under high pressure.
2. Understanding Pressure Limits
Hookless rims have strict structural safety limits. Always respect the maximum pressure printed on your rim, and never exceed it. Maximum pressure depends on tire width, so check the rim label or the product page before inflating. Using a digital pressure gauge is recommended, and a floor pump with a gauge is more reliable than a hand pump or compressor for the final fill.
3. Sealant Injection
Inject about 30 to 60 ml of latex-based sealant per tire through the valve core (use the lower end for 25c to 28c, the higher end for wider tires, and follow your sealant’s instructions). Spin the wheel immediately to coat the inner casing for optimal puncture protection.
